How Dan came to his love of the road
Besides being a huge fan of Jack Kerouac....
Dan grew up on an old retired family farm in pastoral Freehold NJ, surrounded by acres of land to play on and growing up with his four brothers, nature was his playground. As a kid his family spent their vacations in Stony Creek in their family cabin....this incredibly special spot was on a dirt road, fronted by a beautiful and changing creek...a super fun playground for sure! Boulders, wetlands, woods to roam, berries and apples to pick! Grandma and mom and aunts making pies out of their pickings! Close by was Lake George with all that fun! The mountains and the woods were where he stepped out of the day to day reality, connected to the real reality of nature, fun and stillness.
His aunt Helen, an amazing woman who at 91 is in better shape than most of us today, his mom and Dan traveled up the north east coast, to Florida, and Connecticut.
On his summers off road trips were the norm, finding that same freedom that the woods, and creeks gave his as a wee lad.
Flash forward to more recent times....Dan and I have been attempting to slowly cover the globe and the country...we have a few more (read that as 20) states to go, but have hit Australia, France, England, Ireland and Canada. This site will log these travels. Join us, and please share your stories.
